The writing life isn’t an easy path for anyone, but for writers of colour, this path is compounded by insecurities – it’s all too easy for writers of colour to feel excluded in a world that normalises whiteness and withholds opportunities for artistic development. How can writers of colour celebrate their identity without letting it define or restrict their work? This discussion examines the ups and downs of writing as a person of colour and explores why it’s important to frame writing by minority writers as universal.
